Original sculptural mould | Custom steel display frame
A striking, large-scale mould associated with one of the horses from The Four Bronze Horses of Helios
in London.
The piece captures the monumental head of the horse in extraordinary detail, preserving the powerful expression, musculature and movement of the original sculptural form. Its vivid red and deep blue surface is covered with the marks and imperfections of the working process — traces that give the object an unexpectedly painterly and contemporary character.
Originally a functional object within the making of a monumental bronze sculpture, the mould now stands as a compelling work in its own right. Viewed away from its original context, it sits somewhere between sculpture, artefact and document of the artistic process.
The scale is particularly impressive. At almost a metre and a half wide, the horse’s head has a commanding architectural presence, while the open, fragmented edges reveal its origins as part of a larger sculptural process.
The fiberglass mould has been mounted on a bespoke black steel frame, specially made to support and present the piece while allowing it to be viewed from multiple angles. The minimal frame gives the horse the appearance of floating, keeping the focus entirely on its dramatic form and richly worked surface.
A unique statement piece with a direct connection to one of London’s recognisable monumental public sculptures, particularly suited to a substantial contemporary interior, gallery, hotel, restaurant or private collection.
