This striking pair of abstract metal sculptures was created in Italy in 1967 and signed by the Italian sculptor Mario Pecoraino , active in the post-war period. Both works were acquired in Sicily and exemplify the experimental spirit of Italian modernist sculpture of the 1960s.
Constructed from cut and welded steel, the sculptures balance abstraction and figuration. Their frontally composed, almost totemic forms evoke human presence without becoming literal, reflecting the influence of post-war modernism, archaic symbolism, and industrial materials. The untreated surface and natural patina emphasize the honesty of the material and the sculptural process.
The two works are conceived as a complementary pair, possibly originating from the same series. Together they form a powerful visual dialogue, characteristic of mid-century Italian studio sculpture.
