A striking collection of three vintage Italian green-glass wine bottles dating from the 1960s, each with its own highly sculptural form.

Originally produced as wine bottles and decanters, these oversized vessels were designed with a decorative life beyond their original contents. Tall, elongated proportions and richly coloured green glass give the group an unmistakably Italian mid-century character. Similar green decorative bottles were produced in Tuscany during this period, particularly around the Empoli glassmaking region.

The collection comprises three distinctly different designs: a tall bottle with an embossed female figure and shield-like motif, retaining its wonderfully aged original paper label; an exceptionally slender bottle with ornate moulded decoration through its central section; and a smaller bottle formed from a rhythmic series of graduated rounded bubbles, finished with its original-style. woven raffia covering around the base.

The figural bottle is particularly characteristic of the elaborate decorative Chianti bottles made for the export market; comparable vintage examples survive with similarly embossed female figures and dramatically elongated necks.Raffia-covered green wine bottles are likewise closely associated with Italian Chianti presentation and were commonly retained and repurposed as decorative objects once empty.

Displayed together, the variations in height, texture and silhouette make a fantastic sculptural composition. The translucent bottle-green glass looks especially beautiful when positioned near natural light. Setprice
