An iconic set of four “Golem” dining chairs, designed by Vico Magistretti for Carlo Poggi of Pavia in 1968. Among the most sculptural Italian chair designs of the twentieth century, the Golem perfectly embodies Magistretti’s ability to transform a functional object into a work of architectural elegance.

Inspired by the verticality and refined proportions of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s celebrated high-back chairs, Magistretti stripped the concept back to its essentials. The result is a bold silhouette defined by a dramatically elongated rear support that rises effortlessly from the frame, balanced by crisp geometric front legs and one gently curved rear leg. The design is both visually commanding and remarkably light in appearance.

This set features the original white lacquered timber frames with contrasting dark grey leather upholstered seats, creating a striking monochrome palette that feels every bit as contemporary today as it did in the late 1960s. Viewed from every angle, the chairs reveal a beautiful interplay of straight lines and subtle curves, making them as compelling as sculptural objects as they are functional seating.

Manufactured by the renowned Carlo Poggi workshop in Pavia, these chairs are celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship and have become increasingly difficult to source, particularly as a complete matching set and in this color combination.
